Take a brand break from social media
The last 60 days I’ve been MIA from social media. Except for a few random tweets, my social channels have been inactive. While social media is seductive, persuasive and can influence behavior and actions that impact my economy and help build my brand, I consciously opted out. WHY? My plate has been full with other branding projects, speeches and personal obligations that required my brain and bandwidth.

Does your brand pass the distinction test? 7 telling questions

If you covered up your logo on your Website, your brochure or one of your important marketing tools, would the market know it was your brand? Do you stand out from the pack or do you blend in and reflect the same concepts, visuals, copy points and features as your competition? As outlined in my recent book, Brand Turnaround, through which I tell the stories of more than 75 brands, Game Changers are key concepts to brand transformation. If you've been following my article series on turnaround, you will recall that I've introduced you to six Game Changers: Take Responsibility, Never Give Up, Lead Strong, Stay Relevant, Keep Improving and Build Equity. In addition to these six, there is one last Game Changer—Own Your Distinction. And, for many brands, this is one of the most important strategies of them all.

An expensive lesson about copyright and photos in blogs

Copyright photos usage
Internet photo police are a real thing. I learned this lesson the expensive way last year. I received a formal letter from Getty Images citing that an image on my blog from 2007 was copyrighted and the image company had no record I paid for use of the photo. Apparently, big photo houses now have teams of professionals watching the web and also use special image tracking software to find illegal photo usage. I immediately looked into their claim and found that the blog article and photo in question was posted by an intern who had worked for me. I was not aware that there was a violation as I trusted that the intern knew the rules of copyright protected images and usage.

I highly recommend this book, Get Rich Click, The Ultimate Guide to Making Money on the Internet by Marc Ostrofsky to every businessperson and entrepreneur. There are gobs of great books available on Internet marketing and I’ve read many. But this one is worth adding to your library of valuable references and tools. Not only is the author, Marc Ostrofsky a real-life success story (he had made millions with the Internet) which for me gives the book extra credibility, it’s also organized in a way that makes it easy to understand, access the learning gems and apply to your business.
